My 2018 in a nutshell!
Updated: Jan 11, 2021
So here's something you might not know about me. I don’t like to celebrate New Years Eve. I can't see the point in celebrating one year closer to the end of the world. This time of the year I’m always focusing on the fact that we are getting older and older and soon we’ll all die. Depressing, I know. So this year I want to do things differently. I want to focus on everything I’ve accomplished and experience this year and to help me to do that I need to write everything down. Hence this list. So this is not a brag list, it’s an attempt to change my way of thinking and a way for you to get to know me a little bit better.
In January I joined the education program for entrepreneurs GROW in my hometown Jakobstad/Pietarsaari. This is one of the best decisions I have made in my whole life! I’ve learned that everything is possible if you can dream it and I know now that I will create my dream job. I’ve also made new friends with a similar passion who are not afraid to dream and who have given me such a great push with my company and we'll continue to push each other to success!!
In February I did my last big sloyd teaching practice and I nailed it! It felt so good!
I can’t really remember if I did something special this month but I think I just worked, studied and tried to figure out my business. GROW really turned my business life upside down, in a good way.
In April a couple of Finnish Lapphunds was born in Isohärmä and we were very excited when we got the lucky news that there was one girl waiting for us. At that time we didn’t really know how a life with a dog would work practically but six month later I can gladly tell you that it worked out amazing!
In May I had my first (1/3) exam for the business education program and I was so nervous but I survived and did actually really good despite the fact that I was sweating like a pig.
In June Saffran finally moved home to our small apartment and we brought her with us everywhere. The same month we also got world's best job of being God parents to my nephew. Marina and I also participated in Knit in Public Day in Vasa. Such a nice event!
In July we had a really nice get together with my grandmothers part of the family. It was so much fun meeting up with everyone and catching up. The same month I participated on a market here in my hometown Jakobstad with my crafty friend Elin. The sales were crap but it was a fun and sweaty day together with Elin. I also started to sell my products at Verket and also voluntarily work there i couple of days a month. Verket is a store who sells sustainably produced, imported and locally produced products. I love the concept and atmosphere and recommend you to pay it a visit if you are in Vasa. We also celebrated my sister with a surprise party. And what a success!
In August I started to work my second year as a after school teacher(?) to finance my business. I’m living in the belief that I get payed for my business work when I actually get paid for my teaching work. Yes, I'm living in a lie, but it's a beautiful one.
In September I launched my first independent web shop and the Green Yarn Mail subscription box for sustainably produced yarn.
In October I sold 10 boxes of Green Yarn Mail and posted 20! I’m so freaking proud of myself for doing this! Thank you for your love and support for this project. It means the world to me! 2019 I will design 4 new exclusive boxes with environmentally friendly yarns for you.
I made my first big decision for my company to not participate in Black Friday. I did this for environmental reasons. I hope that people buy from me because they love my products and share my values and not because it’s cheap. Because environmental friendly yarn isn’t cheap but It’s so worth every penny! Someone is always paying the price and if it’s not you it’s somebody or something else… This month I also participated in my first amigurumi design contest. It didn’t go so well but I’m glad I participated. In November I also launched my Youtube channel How To Crochet. There will be new content in 2019!
In December I hosted my first crochet along (CAL) on the blog and Facebook with almost 100 participants. So crazy and such a fun and excited experience! Thank you everyone!
